ROBERT C. BONSIB, ESQ. WINS NOT GUILTY VERDICTS FOR POLICE OFFICER CHARGED WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE, MISCONDUCT IN OFFICE AND MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS AFTER MULTI-DAY TRIAL IN PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT
The trial of a Prince George's County Police Detective ended with not guilty verdicts on all counts. The officer's apprehension of a fleeing suspect had been captured on videotape from a business surveillance camera. The video received widespread media visibility and the officer had been criticized by many who viewed the video clip, but who did not have the story as to what happened before the portion of the incident was captured on video. Using defensive tactics experts and by presenting the complete evidence as to what had occurred prior to the apprehension, a more accurate and complete picture emerged showing that prior to the suspect's apprehension that he was with an associate wearing a ski mask when both entered a convenience store. When the suspect was approached by police investigating what appeared to be a possible robbery in progress, the suspect assaulted the detective's partner, knocking him to the ground. A lengthy foot chase followed, through dark neighborhoods, ending when the suspect stopped and turned to confront the officer. According to defense experts, the officer had 1.75 seconds to react to this potentially dangerous movement. The judge agreed with the defense experts that the actions of the detective were both necessary and reasonable considering all the facts and circumstances known to the officer at the time of the confrontation.

DECEMBER 2012 - 10 COUNT ACQUITTAL IN 3.5 WEEK FEDERAL DRUG, HEALTH CARE AND AGGRAVATED IDENTITY THEFT CASE
AFTER A THREE AND HALF WEEK TRIAL IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE DISTRICT OF MARYLAND AFTER ONLY FIVE HOURS OF DELIBERATIONS A FEDERAL JURY FOUND ROBERT C. BONSIB'S CLIENT NOT GUILTY OF EACH COUNT OF A TEN-COUNT INDICTMENT. THE CLIENT HAD BEEN INDICTED WITH A PHYSICIAN IN AN INDICTMENT ALLEGING THAT THE CLIENT AND THE DOCTOR CONSPIRED TO HAVE THE DOCTOR UNLAWFULLY ISSUE PAIN MEDICATION PRESCRIPTIONS WHICH THE CLIENT WAS THEN ACCUSED OF SELLING FOR HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. THE CLIENT WAS ALSO CHARGED WITH CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT HEALTH CARE FRAUD AND AGGRAVATED IDENTITY THEFT. THE JURY REJECTED THE GOVERNMENT'S ALLEGATIONS AS TO ALL COUNTS.
